    The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) is the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law organization.  Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first African-American U.S. Supreme Court Justice, LDF was launched at a time when the nation’s aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality.  From that era to the present, LDF’s mission has always been transformative: to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

    LDF’s litigation, public policy advocacy and public education programs in the areas of criminal justice, economic justice, education and political participation seek to ensure the fundamental and basic human rights of all people to quality education, economic opportunity, the right to vote and fully participate in democracy, and the right to a fair and just judicial system. 

    POSITION

    The President and Director-Counsel and Board of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) are currently seeking a Chief Operations Officer (COO) and General Counsel who is mission-focused, seasoned, strategic and process-minded. The COO/General Counsel will work with the President and Director-Counsel on the overall strategic planning process and implement initiatives, while also having operational responsibility for all of LDF’s programs and managing program and departmental directors.  S/he must have experience leading an executive management team and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals. The COO/General Counsel must be a leader who is able to help others deliver measureable, cost effective results that make LDF’s organizational vision a reality.  The successful COO/General Counsel will have the skills, sensitivity and personality to confidently tap into the power that each member of the team brings to the mission.

    This position will be located in LDF’s New York office and report to the President and Director-Counsel.

    Position

    The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is seeking to hire a Director of Litigation.  The Director will report to the President and Director-Counsel. The Director of Litigation, a critical member of the organization’s senior management team will provide strategic leadership and coordination regarding both litigation and non-litigation legal advocacy.  The Director of Litigation is a highly visible spokesperson for LDF, advocating for civil rights, both in the courts of law and in the court of public opinion.

    Position

    The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is seeking to hire a Director of Communications/Media Strategist.  The Director will report to the President and Director-Counsel and the Associate Director-Counsel.  S/he will have the opportunity to build the Department and to develop a comprehensive communication plan for the organization.  S/he will have primary responsibility for creating and managing a department responsible for developing strategies to support the public education mission of the LDF and for ensuring that LDF’s legal work is promoted in print, radio, television, electronic and social media.

    Position

    LDF seeks a Director of Development to conceptualize, organize and implement a comprehensive, strategic fundraising program to support the organization’s work. It is expected that the Director of Development will increase the organization’s support from individuals, corporations and foundations and play a key role in identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donors for annual and planned gifts.
