LDF is a qualified charity and accepts gifts directly from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA). A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) is a tax-wise way for individuals age 70½ and older to make a charitable gift from their IRA. QCDs are not subject to income tax, and they can also reduce the amount of required minimum distributions (RMDs) that an individual must take from their IRA.

To make a QCD to LDF, a supporter must instruct their IRA custodian to send the distribution directly to the LDF (NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc. 40 Rector St. 5th Fl. New York, NY 10006 Attn: Planned Giving). Additional information commonly requested by IRA custodians:

About LDF

The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) is America's premier legal organization fighting for racial justice.

Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first Black Supreme Court Justice, LDF is known for its landmark civil rights litigation such as Brown v. Board of Education, the 1954 case that ended legally sanctioned discrimination. Today, using the power of law, narrative, research, and people, LDF defends and advances the full dignity and citizenship of Black people in America.

Working in criminal justice, political participation, economic justice, and education equity, LDF strives to:

Your donation helps ensure we can continue advancing our transformative mission to achieve racial justice and an inclusive society.

Since our founding the Legal Defense Fund has worked tirelessly to make substantial progress—but today, we are witnessing unprecedented threats to our hard-won gains. That means your support is more urgent than ever.

We’re counting on your help to advance LDF’s efforts to protect voting rights, reform our criminal justice system, achieve education equity, and ensure economic justice for all.
