The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) joined a broad coalition of civil society organizations in signing on to a joint letter condemning the Trump administration’s actions following reports of a Department of Justice criminal investigation into a social justice foundation. Reports of the investigation came after President Donald Trump previously made clear his interest in targeting people and organizations with which he disagrees.
Alongside the group letter, Todd A. Cox, Associate Director-Counsel at LDF, issued the following statement:
“Since day one, this administration has worked to target and silence people and organizations dedicated to advancing and protecting civil and human rights and ensuring our neighbors have a roof over their heads, food on the table, and the health care services they need to survive. Such efforts to silence and undermine our organizations would be particularly harmful for Black communities and countless others who already face stark discrimination and myriad injustices. These tactics are an affront to the health and longevity of our democracy.”
