Consistent with LDF’s ;work over the last 75 years to enforce the Constitution’s guarantees against all forms of discrimination, we urge the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down discriminatory state laws that impinge upon the freedom to marry. Four decades ago, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that state bans on interracial marriage were unconstitutional in Loving v. Virginia, in another case with which LDF was involved. Loving remains deeply relevant to marriage equality today and teaches that our nation has a tremendous capacity to foster greater equality.
