On September 28, 2010, Jin Hee Lee, Assistant Counsel for LDF’s Criminal Justice Project, joined William Gibney of the Legal Aid Society in testifying before the New York City Council’s Committees on Civil Rights, Public Safety, and Public Housing. LDF and the Legal Aid Society are co-counsel in Davis v. City of New York, a federal class action lawsuit challenging unlawful trespass enforcement policies in New York City Housing Authority developments. The testimony examines the problems with these policies, which have led to the unlawful stops, searches, and arrests of countless NYCHA residents and guests, presents necessary reforms to end these constitutional violations, and makes recommendations for action by the City Council.
