Yesterday, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), in conjunction with other civil rights organizations, filed a brief in Little v. LATFOR, in defense of New York’s law ending prison-based gerrymandering. The Plaintiffs in this case seek to return prison-based gerrymandering to New York. LDF’s brief asks the court to deny the Plaintiffs’ motion for summary judgment, and instead to grant LDF’s motion for summary judgment on the grounds that prison-based gerrymandering is inconsistent with the New York Constitution and basic principles of equity.
