Judge Denny Chin, of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan today gave final approval on May 15, 2008 to the settlement in the case of Wright v. Stern, which alleged race and national origin discrimination against the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Judge Chin reviewed the settlement that was agreed to in February and found that it met the applicable legal standards for approval. He concluded that the applicable law “overwhelmingly support[s] approval of the Agreement.”
In February the New York City government agreed to pay more than $21 million to settle the federal class action lawsuit against the parks department brought by black and Hispanic employees.
