Congressman Bobby Scott and Congressman Christopher Murphy co-hosted a congressional briefing on the Negative Effects of Zero Tolerance Discipline Policies in Schools on Capitol Hill on July 29, 2010. Both representatives are members of the House Education & Labor Committee, which oversees legislation directly impacting school discipline.
The briefing served as an opportunity to provide key information to congressional staffers regarding zero tolerance policies and how they fuel the School to Prison Pipeline. Attorneys from LDF’s Education Practice Group prepared information and remarks for this important briefing. And Education Practice Group Director Damon Hewitt served on the panel of speakers.
