Today LDF Director Counsel Sherrilyn Ifill appeared with Roland Martin and Tom Joyner on the syndicated radio program, The Tom Joyner Morning Show (TJMS).  The show reaches an estimated 8 million listeners.  Ifill encouraged listeners to follow LDF’s “Call to Action,” and to 1) report voting changes to the LDF; 2) contact their congresspersons and demand a fix to the Voting Rights Act and 3) attend the August 24th March on Washington.

Ifill emphasized that without the protections of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which the Supreme Court removed in its June decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder, average citizens must be “our eyes and ears” in detecting and fighting new discriminatory voting practices. LDF lawyers represented black voters in the Shelby County case, and argued the case in the United States Supreme Court.Listen to Ifill on the TJMS here.
