On Joy Reid’s MSNBC show, Sherrilyn Ifill talks about the myth of voter fraud and the devastating effects of voter suppression on people of color throughout the country, especially in the south. Voter fraud is a phantom epidemic — there is no real evidence of this fraud to justify the wave of voter suppression. Studies have demonstrated that a person is more likely to be struck by lightning than to witness in-person voter fraud. Ifill described efforts to suppress the franchise as anti-democratic and unpatriotic. The people most hurt and most affected by voter suppresion are those “who don’t have a voice in the system — their vote is their voice.”
