The trial is underway to determine whether Gardendale City Schools can separate from Jefferson County Schools and form its own school system.

“The plaintiffs … which are black students and their parents in Jefferson County … want to ensure that Jefferson County is able to do what it needs to do to provide their Constitutional right to an integrated education,” said Monique Lin-Luse, an attorney representing the plaintiffs in Stout v. Jefferson County BOE case.

“Stability is important for everyone and it’s important for Jefferson County to get on with the business that it needs to do, in order to meet its obligations and to serve all its students, and to provide quality education for all students. And so that should be something that all parents are concerned about,” she said.
