The NYPD’s gang database leaves thousands of New Yorkers of color vulnerable to heightened police harassment or scrutiny, and it’s unclear whether the NYPD has any legitimate reason for targeting them.
At a time when the department claims to be “more transparent than it has ever been,” the NYPD continues to present conflicting information about its gang database.
New Yorkers deserve genuine transparency. And we are going to court to get it.
