Today, LDF sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, urging swift confirmation of Charlotte Burrows, nominee for Commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and David Lopez, nominee for General Counsel of the EEOC.

Leslie Proll, Director of LDF’s Washington office, writes that the EEOC has served on the “front line” for almost 50 years in protecting employees against discrimination.  Proll notes that the EEOC remains vitally important today, when charges of race discrimination in the workplace still outnumber all other types of charges.

Charlotte Burrows currently serves as Associate Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice and David Lopez is in his first term as General Counsel of the EEOC. The letter notes that both nominees have “extensive civil rights experience and a lifelong commitment to justice and equality.”
