Today, former Minneapolis Police Department officer Derek Chauvin, who was filmed driving his knee into George Floyd’s neck until he died, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF)’s Director of Policing Reform Campaign Monique Dixon released the following statement:

“The arrest and charging of Derek Chauvin is a good start and we look forward to learning about any charges against the bystander officers. A culture of police violence will not change until all the officers involved are held accountable. We urge investigators to be transparent by releasing the police report, which may provide additional information about the officers’ interaction with George Floyd the day he was killed.”
