Marquis Jenkins, our Criminal Justice Community Organizer was on the ground in Ferguson last night: “I have been to many protests, actions, and demonstrations, but in my 10+ years organizing within communities of color, I have never experienced what I saw last night in St. Louis. Ferguson County felt like a war zone at night.”
“Sunday night after 9pm local time, law enforcement — *completely* without warning — fired rubber bullets and tear gas from tanks right into a community march of Ferguson county residents, a large portion of whom were very young children. The march took place on Florissant Ave., a main street where protesters have been gathering daily since Michael Brown was killed. Kids younger than 13 were pelted with tear gas. It was clearly an attempt to criminalize the right to assemble and intimidate community members.”
