As the Senate gives final consideration to reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), LDF speaks strongly about retaining the basic principles of the Act, originally passed in 1965 to ensure that all students are educated on an equal and equitable basis. LDF sent a letter to all Senators, emphasizing that the federal role in ensuring equal educational opportunity must be preserved. In conjunction with partner civil rights organizations, LDF released a document highlighting the importance of the federal role in education. The Senate takes final votes on the bill, known as the Every Child Achieves Act, this week.
