Today, LDF sent a letter urging the Atlanta City Council to reject Resolution 24-R-4518 which recommends ill-conceived changes to the OIG’s functions and would impede the Inspector General’s independence and ability to investigate without interference. It is concerning that just three months after the sentencing of an official charged in the federal corruption probe,4 a task force is issuing recommendations to limit the OIG’s authority and power to root out waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption. Any changes to the OIG’s processes must stringently protect its independence and ability to conduct thorough investigations without interference from city officials. The task force’s recommendations fail to provide these critical protections.

LDF urges City Council members to reject the recommendations outlined in Resolution 24- R-4518 and to safeguard the OIG’s important function in preventing waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption in Atlanta.
