LDF’s litigation team—Sherrilyn Ifill (President and Director-Counsel), Janai Nelson (Associate Director-Counsel), Sam Spital (Director of Litigation), Natasha Merle (Senior Counsel), and Christina Swarns (former LDF Director of Litigation who argued Buck)—descending the Supreme Court steps after the Buck v. Davis argument that led to a major victory on the grounds that Mr. Buck’s capital sentencing hearing was infected by racial bias. Ms. Swarns is one of a small number Black female private counsels to argue before the Supreme Court.
