The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Using the power of law, narrative, research, and people, we defend and advance the full dignity and citizenship of Black people in America. The Thurgood Marshall Institute is a multidisciplinary center within LDF that complements the organization’s traditional litigation, strengthening it through innovative research and publications, targeted advocacy, and public education campaigns.

Responsibilities: 

  • Identifying items in the group chat that need to go on social, and extracting potential quotes for posting language
  • Selecting quotes from LDF press releases that can be used and/or truncated for use on social
  • Identifying time codes for clipping on protracted video content such as interviews, webinars, podcasts and non-SLT hearings
  • Recording coalition press conferences and non-PDC public appearances (example)
  • Monitor the Communications email and Teams for timely Digital asks
  • Drafting #OTD content
  • Drafting preview posts for TV and radio hits
  • Collecting links and language for social posts to go out over the weekend

Qualifications: 

  • Current or recent college student; 
  • Professional and/or academic experience in the communications or journalism fields and with writing for digital or print publications; 
  • Keen interest in policy and advocacy preferred; 
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills and attention to detail; 
  • Commitment to the racial justice mission of LDF.
