The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is celebrating its 70th anniversary, and what a wonderful year this has turned out to be. Our celebration started with four very special events: the Princeton Committee Fall Reception last October in NJ, our annual National Equal Justice Award Dinner last November in New York City, a Reception and Program this past March in Los Angeles, CA and Reception and Panel Discussion last month here in New York City. We are now excited to reconnect again with our alumni, friends and donors in Washington, DC.
We hope that you will join us June 21, 2011 for a 70th anniversary reception, discussion and book signing at the historic National Archives, 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in Washington, DC.
We have a wonderful program planned for the evening:
6:00 pm Reception
7:15 pm Conversation, featuring John Payton, LDF's President and Director-Counsel, Eugene Robinson, the Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and author of Disintegration: The Splintering of Black America and Elaine R. Jones, LDF's fourth President and Director-Counsel.
8:15 pm Dessert in the Rotunda Gallery with an opportunity to view some of our nation's most important documents including: the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Magna Carta. You will also be able to purchase a signed copy of Mr. Robinson's new book.
This conversation, which Eugene Robinson has graciously agreed to moderate, will allow us to showcase LDF's important victories throughout the 70 years since its founding; show the impact these past successes have had on our current work and our provide an overview of the challenges that will shape our future.
