Terrebonne Parish: LDF’s Post-Voting Rights Trial Findings

6/09/17

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) filed our proposed post-trial findings of fact and conclusions of law in pursuit of a seat for Black people on the state court that serves them in Terrebonne, Louisiana. The facts established at a two-part trial in March and April 2017, and applicable law, confirm that vote dilution exists in Terrebonne due to Louisiana's maintenance of at-large voting for the 32nd Judicial District, the state court at issue, since 1968. Plaintiffs in this case are the Terrebonne NAACP, Rev. Vincent Fusilier, Lionel Myers, Daniel Turner, and Wendell Shelby.
