President Obama Nominates LDF Alum Bolden to Connecticut District Court

6/16/14

Last week, President Obama announced his intention to nominate former LDF lawyer Victor Bolden to serve on the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.  Victor served as Assistant Counsel at LDF from 1994 to 2000 and then returned to LDF as General Counsel from 2005 to 2009.

The White House announcement referred to four additional nominations. In a statement, President Obama said:  "I am honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench.  They will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the District Court."

Connecticut's two Senators, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, issued a release applauding the Bolden nomination:  "Victor Bolden has the intellect, integrity and life experience that will make him a judge of courage and compassion.  He will also help address a workload and backlog that requires more judges as soon as possible.  Our hope is that he will be confirmed promptly ...."

Sherrilyn Ifill, LDF's President and Director-Counsel, praised the nomination:  "I know Victor to be an attorney of the highest integrity and deeply committed to achieving the best result for his clients. In addition to his tenure at LDF, he practiced commercial litigation at one of Connecticut's top law firms, Wiggins & Dana, and most recently served as Corporation Counsel for the City of New Haven. His varied experience in private practice, governmental service and the public interest undoubtedly makes him an exceptional candidate for the federal bench."
