LDF Urges Senate Committee to Curb Militarization of State and Local Police and Impose Structural Reforms to Ensure Police Accountability9/09/14
In testimony submitted today to a Senate committee reviewing militarization of state and local law enforcement, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (“LDF”) called for structural reforms to ensure police accountability and the demilitarization of local law enforcement, including in America’s public schools. The presence of military-style weapons in K-12 public schools, LDF said, poses “significant danger” to students of color who are already the most vulnerable to overly punitive discipline.

LDF Brings JP Schnapper-Casteras on Board as Special Counsel for Appellate and Supreme Court Advocacy9/08/14
LDF today announced that John Paul Schnapper-Casteras has joined the organization as Special Counsel for Appellate and Supreme Court Advocacy.
In this newly created role, Schnapper-Casteras, known as JP, will work with LDF attorneys on all aspects of civil rights litigation, particularly strategic development and preparation of appellate and Supreme Court briefs.
