Yesterday, NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF) President and Director-Counsel Sherrilyn Ifill participated in a White House meeting with President Barack Obama Vice President Joe Biden, representatives from law enforcement organizations, youth leaders, local elected officials and members of the faith community.
Today, LDF sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, urging swift confirmation of Charlotte Burrows, nominee for Commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and David Lopez, nominee for General Counsel of the EEOC.
After deciding a trip to Ferguson, Missouri would be too disruptive, President Obama instead meets with civil rights leaders, including LDF President and Director Counsel Sherrilyn Ifill, and young organizers at the White House to discuss ways of rebuilding trust and improving relations between law enforcement and communities of color.
Sherrilyn Ifill on Meet The Press, hosted by Chuck Todd, talked about race in America after a flawed grand jury process in Ferguson, Missouri failed to return an indictment for Officer Darren Wilson in the killing of Michael Brown.
