Just last week, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals denied our client's appeal and Duane Buck is now one step closer to being executed in Texas despite clear racial discrimination at his sentencing hearing. LDF stands in support of the Senate's action today to resolve the judicial confirmation crisis that has interfered with the essential functioning of our federal judiciary.

Over Two-Dozen Evangelical Christian Leaders in Texas and Nationwide Request Mercy for Duane Buck, Urge District Attorney to Not Seek Execution Date11/21/13Related Case or Issue:
(Houston, TX, Thursday, November 21, 2013) – Today, 27 Evangelical Christian leaders across Texas and the United States are calling on Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson to allow a new, fair sentencing hearing for Duane Buck. Mr. Buck is an African-American man who was condemned to death after his sentencing jury was told that he was likely to be a future danger because of his race. These Evangelical Christian leaders oppose the setting of any execution date for Mr. Buck.
Judge Shira Scheindlin was asked by the Bloomberg administration to 'recuse herself' from a class-action suit involving NYPD stops for trespassing in city housing projects. In a prior class-action suit on an NYPD practice, Scheindlin found aspects of stop-and-frisk were unconstitutional — but was later booted off the case.
...Johanna Steinberg, senior counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, said the city’s call for the judge’s recusal was “premature and unwarranted.”
