On Free Speech Radio News, LDF attorney Leah Aden commented on the Alabama redistricting case pending before the Supreme Court, noting that Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act did not require Alabama to maintain exact percentages of Black voters in legislative districts to preserve Black voters' ability to elect their preferred candidates of choice.
The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc., (LDF) welcomed today's historic votes by the U.S. Senate to confirm the first African-American female judges ever to serve on Georgia's federal judiciary.
The Senate confirmed Leslie Abrams to the Middle District of Georgia and Eleanor Ross to the Northern District of Georgia. President Obama had previously nominated two African-American females to the Northern District of Georgia, but the Senate refused to act and the nominations were withdrawn.
LDF mourns the passing of iconic civil rights lawyer, John Doar. Mr. Doar was a fearless advocate of racial justice, who served alongside LDF in the most significant civil rights struggles of the 1960's.
