Few issues confront our nation with such blunt force as persistent inequalities in the criminal justice system. Race and class disparities, laws that disproportionately impact African Americans, inadequate legal representation, discriminatory jury selection, and harsher sentencing of African-American defendants all conspire to ensure the incarceration of large numbers of blacks in prison and on death row. LDF's primary mission is to ensure the fair and equitable treatment of African Americans within the criminal justice system.
