On Thursday, November 4, 2010, LDF hosted its 24th annual National Equal Justice Award Dinner. At the gala, LDF honored two extraordinary business leaders, William M. Lewis, Jr., Co-Chairman of Investment Banking at Lazard and LDF Board Co-Chair Emeritus, and William C. Weldon, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson. On this special occasion, Mr. Lewis and Mr. Weldon each received LDF’s National Equal Justice Award.
The 2010 NEJAD also celebrated LDF’s 70th anniversary by paying special tribute to Mrs. Thurgood (Cissy) Marshall, Justice Marshall’s widow and a member of LDF’s Board of Directors.
As in the past, our event was held at the Hilton New York & Towers Hotel in New York City. This year's NEJAD raised more than $2.5 million dollars thanks to the generousity of our supporters.
The evening also included a video highlighting LDF’s rich history as told by John Payton, President and Director-Counsel, and each of the former Directors-Counsel: Thurgood Marshall, Jack Greenberg, Julius Chambers, Elaine R. Jones, and Theodore M. Shaw.
